Nothing like an invitation to a themed exhibition to get you out of your comfort zone! I haven't made a teapot in ages but that's just what I had to do for TeaTime, an exhibition of ceramic vessels related to the idea of tea server, coming up at the Clay Art Center in Port Chester, NY. This exhibition of functional and sculptural teapots explores the history of tea and its relevance in our culture. The exhibition will highlight the teapot, whose form and related ceremonies has inspired artists for centuries and continues to be a valid form of expression in studios of contemporary artists today. Opening Saturday, Feb 1 and running through Tuesday, Apr 1, my work will be in some very good company of fellow fantastic clay artists. An reception is scheduled for Saturday, Feb 1 from 5 - 7 p.m.
Starting Saturday, Jan 25, a selection of 10 drinking vessels and a single pouring container by yours truly will be on display in the Glassell Gallery at Louisiana State University's School of Art. My work, along with that of 24 other well-respected, established potters, has been curated into the exhibition by Mark Cole, Assistant Professor of Practice at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln. The show runs through Sunday, Mar 9 with a reception with the guest curator on Thursday, Feb 20 from 6 - 8 p.m. If your in the Baton Rouge area, I hope you'll stop by and check out, what I'm sure will be, a visual feast for the eyes and a tactile extravagance for the hand.
Best late than never, I'm pleased to announce that I am part of a two-person exhibition at the Roland Dille Center for the Arts Gallery at Minnesota State University Moorhead opening next Monday. The exhibition runs through January 30 with a reception on January 23 from 4 - 6 p.m. that will include an artist talk at 5 p.m. I'll also have the opportunity to meet and talk with students about their work and career plans. Looking forward this!

For one-night-only on Friday, December 6 from 5 - 9 p.m., I'll be opening my home and my studio for holiday shoppers! You'll be able to choose from a host of handmade pottery including teacups, bowls, plates, serving pieces, holiday ornaments, and more. I'll also have some of my beaded jewelry and never-before-for-sale prints and note cards featuring photographs I've captured over the years.
My sale is slated in conjunction with the many family-friendly events planned for Yule Fest, Nebraska City’s newest annual tradition. This new weekend-long festival will include a Jingle Bell 5K run/walk, an Advent recital, tour of lights, downtown holiday Sip & Stroll, a holiday bazaar, and community-wide shopping promotions.
My Open House event is of course free to attend and all ages are welcome; like I always do, I'll have something fun for the kiddos to do! Hot apple cider and seasonal snacks will be served.
Cash, check, debit and credit cards accepted for purchases. If I can round up some helpers, we'll even plan to gift wrap! My home and studio are located at 1615 2nd Avenue; works will be displayed inside the house and the studio will be open for tours and youth activities. Hope to see you there!
Craftacular is holiday shopping event in downtown Lincoln, NE and my pottery and I are going to be there! Featuring the brightest artists, designers and crafters from Nebraska and
beyond, Craftacular is in it's 6th year, the brainchild of artist, Jen Landis. She's grown the idea from a small collective of 12 artists setting up and selling their work at a little place called Zen's Lounge. It has now grown into an annual event with over 65 vendors and nearly 1000 shoppers!
Be one of the first 50 shoppers on Wednesday, December 4 when the event kicks off at 4 p.m. at the Cornhusker Hotel and get yourself a limited edition screen-printed tote bag filled with goodies made by the artists! So grab your friends and skip the mass-produced mall fare in favor of local, handmade goods! It's like a home-grown, in-person version of Etsy.
