I've included an array of my usual handmade functional ceramic work - a few mugs, some tumblers, a new wine chiller with stemless wine glasses, and several serving pieces. I also have 144 prints arranged in three large repeat pattern wall coverings hanging in the gallery. Pretty excited about these because one, I've been itching to put the Vandercook at KHN to work and two, these prints have been swimming around in my head for awhile now so it was good to finally get them out on paper!! I'll be posting shots of the installation soon but sincerely hope you'll have the chance to see it in person. The show is up through Friday, December 9.

We are often asked to fully donate work that we have spent money and time to lovingly create, a request that often left me feeling that I was being taken advantage of or that people didn't respect the work of an artist. However, I've changed my tune. I recently had an ephiphany that by donating my work to causes I believed in I could do my part to help. I don't have cash to hand out and I don't have time to volunteer. What I do have are objects that I make by hand with love and care. Those objects can be given to auctions and fundraisers in which they will act as a catalysis for someone else to open their wallet. These events are also a great way to get your work in front of new audiences in new venues. So this year, I've given work to what I consider to be some worthy causes:

This program was established in honor of the Society for Contemporary Craft’s (SCC) Director of Exhibitions, Kate Lydon, for her 20 years of service. Launched in the fall of 2007, LEAP provides early career artists who show exceptional promise the opportunity to showcase a body of their work to a regional, national, and international audience in the Store. As a finalist I will have the opportunity to have a body of work marketed and sold through the Store for a one-month period. I will also be sending them more images of current work which the juror will evaluate and use to determine a winner. The winner of the LEAP Award, to be announced in December, receives a $1000 prize and their work will be featured and sold through SCC's Store for one year. Wish me luck!!

New work to be at Artisan Gallery, Belleville, WI

A while back the interesting world of etsy connected me with a wonderful jeweler in Ohio, Janice Ho. Or better yet, I should say it earned me a stalker - she was madly in love with my butterdishes and wanted to do a trade. I was happy to do so as the feeling was mutual towards her jewelry. Well - long story short - we found that we've likely passed each other on the street several times but never met as our lives have strangely overlapped in so many ways. She connected me with a gallery in Belleville, Wisconsin where she shows and I'll soon be delivering a new full line of work to their space. I'm so excited to have my work taking root in my home state. I hope you'll stop by and visit the gallery when you are in the area. Oh, and I hear they have a delightful little cafe and coffee shop!

It's a new style of fundraiser for SCC where they have chosen to feature a particular type of handmade object, in this case the ever-functional and usually-affordable ceramic mug. Their goal is not only to raise funds for continuing programs at SCC but also to educate a new audience about the importance of collecting handmade objects. I just sent my two off this morning!!
